shameless self promo: knitscene

if you get a chance, check out the spring 2009 issue of knitscene mag for an article written by yours truly. what a kick to combine my three BFFs: knitting, writing and fashion! i'd love to hear your comments...that includes you lurkers...you know who you are!

priorities

arrived yesterday in whitefish, montana, for a weeklong ski vaca with some of the ski bettys, most of whom also love to knit. our first stop after being fetched from the airport by our lovely hostess sue: camas creek yarns. this shop turned out to be one of the best, if not THE best yarn shop i've ever had the pleasure of visiting. more on that later. in the meantime, lots of knitting and wine, a little snowshoeing, and eating of dark chocolate. ahhh, i love a ski trip.

knitted together

watching the inaugural coverage a little while ago, i could not help but notice the tens of thousands of heads assembled on this chilly winter day and wonder how many knitted hats there must be.

O.M.G.

knitting is one of my obsessions. advertising copywriting is another. so perhaps that explains my absolute giddiness over this new font. created by a pair of estonian designers, it's called "thread."

an early thaw

not likely, given the frigid temps we're currently braving here in the northeast. but a girl can dream, can't she? well, she can...as soon as she gets her icy fingers on the new rowan 45.

xoxo cowichan

who cares about the purple shoes? get a load of that cowichan wannabe that v's rockin. sent in by "anonymous" (really? anonymous? c'mon, will ya just go ahead and delurk already? ;) anon. asks if the cowichan trend is coming or going. i honestly don't know. and i'm not sure i care. if it's good enough for marilyn, it's good enough for me!

i'm starsky, he's margiela

my friend jason is coveting this huggy bear of a martin margiela pullover. (and by "coveting," i mean he wants me to knit it for him.) seems vaguely reminiscent of starsky's cowichan, sans the cowichan, of course. and sans starsky. (yo, check the perm.)

which got me to thinking about the whole cowichan thing...maybe it was the sweater...maybe it was the jack and tab. in any event, there is a great writeup on the history of the craft here. and i seem to recall seeing an article recently in IK, as well.

starsky was hardly the first sex symbol to rock the look.

then i remembered this twinkle design from fall 2007. how now cowichan!

my now OCD-fueled quest for the cowichan also turned up this other semi-fug, semi-cool faux-co ski dress. there's something about this dress that makes me want to go put a big fur hat on my head. maybe starsky was onto something after all.

of course, none of this puts me any closer to finding the actual pattern (or reasonable facisimile thereof) for the MM pullover. any ideas where i can find one? i'm not sure i have the strength to figure this one out on my own.
