what to wear while blogging
leave it to carrie bradshaw. who else would hang out at their laptop in a nina ricci ostrich feather sweater?
nina ricci. fall 2007 RTW
btw, while googling around for the feather sweater pic, i stumbled upon this other design from the same collection. don't you just love this acid yellow and dove grey color combo?
phildar does chloe
thanks to the lovely monica (who blogs about two of my favorite things here and who loves the chloe but has sworn off dresses for now) for tipping me off to this tab-shouldered dress from the frenchy phildar. naturally, it is seulement en francais. and my francais is a little, how do you say in anglais, crappe, with an accent on the e. still, might be worth a look.

LA LA LA...I CAN'T HEAR YOU
stop with the spoilers, already, will ya, and just let a girl get her SATC on in peace.
11:52 pm addendum: just got home from the movie. i'm not gonna lie: i laughed, i cried, i spilled snuck-in cosmos on my shoes. all i can say is love. love...
p.s. be sure to check out the fierce, fab, and fa-lawless fendi knit bag (no pretendis for sweet charlotte) and the feathery nina ricci sweater carrie sports later on in the movie...and i swear to god she has on a pair of rowan anna knee socks in another scene. and don't get me started on the argyle thigh-highs...

see chloe knit
perusing the world wide webs for summer knitspiration, i came across this adorable see by chloe knit dress. kind of retro, but modern. love the detail at the waist. i would love to find a yarn in that exact shade of blue. rowan 4-ply soft had a lovely shade of pool blue called "bluebird," but it's discontinued. 4-ply cotton would be nice, but no really wonderful blues. alchemy silken straw in janboy sapphire looks pretty fab, but always hard to tell online. in any case, i can totally picture this dress with a pair of white pointy keds. so knock-offable!
check out this free download from VK. i think this square-neck top could easily be adapted to the chloe look by narrowing and lengthening the silo, adjusting the neck, and adding tabs in lieu of sleeves. okay, maybe i shouldn't have said easily, but it would certainly be a fun challenge. and aren't we all up for that?
more summer top "it knits" include this from one of my faves, nora. and this bit of loveliness from kim hargreaves's nectar.

kid stuff
i finally stopped whining over the demise of my spring showers scarf and got down to real business: finding something new to knit for summer. leafing through the spring 2008 IK, i decided my fave design of the issue is this adorable polo dress. tweak the sizing, maybe tweak the stripes to be very muted or make it in a single color with contrasting trim. either way, i think it would be totally fun for summer. who says kids get to have all the fun?

lost
maybe it was the 18-hour travel day. maybe it was the sauvignon blanc. all i know is i left my nearly FO april showers scarf on the seat of a united flight to dulles the other night. everytime i think about all those rows and rows of lacey lamb and silken straw, i feel sick to my stomach. on top of that, i lost my fave addi turbo lace needles and a lovely latern moon silk project bag.
united no longer takes calls regarding lost items. you have to email them with the flight and info about the lost item. they then only contact you in the event that your item is found.
is there a patron saint of lost knitting?

can you spot the inspiration?
i will give you a hint. it was big. it was purple. it was fringed. and apparently, it was the spirit of '76...1976. the year of our poncho. modeled above by the fierce, fa-lawless and fabulous alicia, sister of chrissy and mother of chloe. in addition to humiliating innocent children, this garment had the power to whip armies of cub scouts into a patriotic frenzy.
fast forward to the year of our poncho 2008. to commemorate the first birthday of her beloved niece chloe, aunt chrissy wishes to inflict similar violet hues of ponchodom. this despite the fact that chrissy herself had suffered the identical armless affliction of the fringed purple poncho. (i believe that is aunt chrissy herself, flanking her sister in head-to-toe red.)
yours truly was commissioned to whip up a version for the next generation. forgive me baby chloe.

raspberry beret et al
this raspberry beret is by the artist known as alex katz, not prince. i think this was painted sometime in the 80s, but it could have been yesterday. so slouchy! and i love the hot pop of pink wool and red lipstick against the wintry landscape.
i was first exposed to katz's work at a gallery in maine a couple of summers ago and was instantly smitten. his way with color and simplicity of line is is always fresh and modern looking, despite the fact that many of the works i'm drawn to were painted in the 70s or 80s.
this one is called "ada's black sandals." once again, i am struck by the modernity of the image. i love the stark look of the black platforms against the white anklets. and notice the detail in the socks...sort of like a chainlink or large fishnet pattern.
i love the mix of power and glamour here. what do you think: a series of jackie o. clones? and what's with the dude on the wall? i guess they put him in his place. i also can't help but notice the similarity to the red-lipsticked brunettes from robert palmer's classic "addicted to love" video.

chloe the knitter?
i don't care how annoyingly tortured chloe is. that glove is some serious cute. and once again, i gotta hand it to whit. you are so money and you don't even know it!
