tommy terrific

i can't stop staring at these images by photoblogger and gadabout extraordinaire tommy ton for vogue nipon. the flowy, chiffon-y dress at left looks like the beginning of a dream sequence on a 60s sitcom: the screen goes all wavy and soft as we hear the angelic flourish of harps and the dramatic echo, echo, echo of the last word spoken.

alongside this daydream of a dress, is the one-two punch of polka dots and cat's-eyes. perfecly styled ballerina buns, leopard accents and sharply pointed stilettos complete the betty-draper-dans-la-rue-de-sainte-honore look. ooh-la-la.

clearly staged, tommy still manages to bring his signature street-smarts to the images. it's as if these lovelies might waltz off the set any moment and head straight to petit dejeuner on the rive gauche.

today, i came across more proof that tommy's vision is worth tons in gold. sak's is using his images in a clever online fashion diary. this page showcases an adorable slouchy beret knit up in a super-chic leopard motif. last year, i became enamored of the motif in a sweater spotted on girl crush alexa chung. this beret makes all that intarsia seem positively do-able, n'est-ce pas?

I'm sure you saw this photo on the Sartorialist earlier this week - it's the same mood, ethereal girls in wisps of chiffon, anchored by serious heels. Something in the air....

And mega-yes to the leopard beret. Would be easy enough to chart, and who'd know if you fudged a stitch here or there?
More, more, if you please! :)

hi susan...are you volunteering to chart it for me ;) ha ha...the thought of charting anything makes my brain hurt. actually, i think one of my friends might have sent a chart that was in one of the vogue knitting books...i'll see if i can dig it up. and thanks for the sart link. the dress and the model's gesture are indeed very similar to those in tommy's shot! thanks for stopping by and commenting. i love to hear from you...and that goes for the rest of you, too. would it kill ya to leave a comment?? xokate

I think it'd look really similar to the photo you post if you just changed the colors around a bit! :)

Way easier than making a new chart up, n'cest pas?
