who's your grandpa?

via
i am digging the notion of the grandpa cardigan as my soon-to-be winter staple. cozy, comfy, and, surprisingly chic. (though it does help to be blake lively as opposed to, say, blake carrington...or, robert blake.)

with a little added length, rowan's blaze would make a lovely option.

maurizio, by debbie bliss, is also grandpappy-worthy and could easily be sized down for a woman.

manos del uruguay has a whole slew of them in their design source collection: button-ups.

rodarte: killing me softly

sisters kate and laura mulleavey know how to swing a velvet hammer right between the eyes. i can't help but notice their japanese-horror-inspired knits all over fall fashion mags. these are some of the most interesting (and disturbing) knit designs i've seen. i would love to know more about the process of creating these. i can't imagine a pattern behind them; they are works of art. i can almost feel the spontaneous anger of the knitter in these pieces. dropped stitch? f**k it. inconsistent gauge? kiss my ass. and could the footwear be any more appropriate? the horny toad christian louboutins give new meaning to the term spike heels. the sheer punk elegance of it all knocks me over with a chainsaw. care to try your hand at hacking it up?
here's an interesting starting point. suggested materials: large needles and an open mind.

money shot

purl soho sucks me in every time with their gratuitous yarn porn. i mean, just look at it. you know you want to squeeze those little pillowy buns of fiber, don't you? ok, well, i do. and get this promo copy from their eblast:

"ShibuiKnits's Merino Kid is a 55% kid mohair and 45% merino double-ply that's lightweight and lofty; snuggly and warm. Worked at 5 stitches per inch, Merino Kid's rich hand-dyed shades and fuzzy halo have a rustic chic you'll want to sport all winter long!

yes! yes! yes! i don't just want to sport it...i want to roll in it!
