king james

saw this amazing james coviello design on VK's site and was compelled to run right out to get my hot little hands on a fall 2008 issue. it wasn't in my LYS yet, but thank god for barnes & noble.

upon further investigation, i also found this adorable LBD version of the jacket on james's charming website.

of course, i could save myself hours of knitting time and just order one here, but that just wouldn't be anywhere near as fun, would it? normally, i'd say it wouldn't be anywhere near as economical, either. but the VK version calls for at least 10 balls of alchemy sanctuary. which is going for $16.50 a ball at purl soho. that is, if you can get your hands on the stuff. according to their website, there's only one ball of the blackest black and zero of the amethyst or citrine.

damn! i am positive sanctuary is worth the price of admission. alchemy yarns are so exquisitely spun and dyed in the most beautiful colors. i just don't think i can wait til they get more in stock. i am thinking blue sky alpaca or alpaca silk would be an ideal sub. any other thoughts?

this pattern looks to be the perfect fall project. there is even a stitch tutorial in VK which shows how to work the delicately sculpted petals. and i have been jonesing for sleeve volume like this ever since i first drooled over this poufy gucci number a couple of summers ago.

anyway, all of this is just the kick in the skein i needed to get my VK ribbed mini dress finito.

i die

call me bananas, but the rachel zoe project has all the earmarks of becoming my new guilty pleasure. the bravo "docudrama" (apparently the term "reality show" has become declasse) debuts next month. in the meantime, i'll have to settle for a disappointing season of project runway and gossip girl reruns.

weardowney

i wish i had spotted this inspiring showreel from weardowney earlier in the season. such retro-modern, lacey, girlie creations. the apricot coat is especially lovely. note the unusual head pieces which appear to have sprung straight from the pages of weldon's. i don't know what i was more mesmerized by: the designs or the sneak peek inside the london duo's amazing studio.

as lucinda just reminded me, weardowney has recently published this collection of their lovely designs.

pop-a-matic

check out this inspirational stitchery via joselyn. i love the raised braided texture of the cables. reminds me of the balenciaga that had me a-gaga a couple of years ago. the push-button treatment on the sweater at right is intriguing. it almost looks like a trio of tiny felted squares was appliqued to the piece.

hairy bowls

check out these lovely felted bowls my friends created. the pattern is from the indispensible one skein.

not only do these bowls look incredible on their own, as sculptural objets d'art, but they make great organizers for all kinds of things.

not to mention the perfect photoshoot props my friend michelle's amazing handcrafted jewelry.
