spotted
forget the fact that i have a girl crush on alexa chung. who wouldn't? she's just so damn cool. but let's focus on the spots for an MTV minute, shall we? i love the way this leopard knit looks paired with the red cross-body bag. and are those vertical strips of sequins on that pencil skirt? meowwww! the point is, we're seeing spots all over the place these days.
i've long been into leopard. the vintage cape and hat belong to my friend mary ann.
found this amazing funnel neck tunic by mary jane protus in my collection of vintage VKs. this one is from 1989.
and this 1986 perry ellis animal print could have prowled the fall 2009 catwalk.
sure, you can treat it as a neutral, but there is nothing beige about a leopard print. some years back, i went to cannes during festival week. i thought i had seen it all the night we were walking back to our hotel at 4 am and spotted a man casually strolling down the croisette, butt naked. the next day, we saw the leopard ladies.
this mother and daughter duo apparently meander around the festival year after year spreading leopard love.
j. crew creative director jenna lyons says leopard worn below the waist cheapens the look. and much as i heart jenna, i may have to disagree. this girl looks effortlessly cool in her little white sneaks, bomber jacket and leopard leggings.

what about you? will you wear animal print tights or leggings this fall? or just a touch of animal chic like a belt or a hat? or do you prefer to keep your wild side under wraps?

I'm not sure how I feel about animal print tights and leggings . . . I have a great pair of leopard print shoes I will definitely wear. I'd consider a dress or cardigan, but I don't think I could pull off tights.
i love leopard but can it be knit up???? intarsia?? leopard fair isle???? giggle....hey no really? how can it be done?
hmmm...good question laurie...how CAN it be knit up??? my guess is the dreaded intarsia. my fave patt is the alexa chung one...kinda random and not overly spotted. what do you think?? i also really really love the perry ellis giraffe-alligator looking print.

great find janice. thanks for posting!
not a big lepoard fan--other than undergarments! but that giraffe print is LOVELY!
yes, I love the alexa print too but my methods are limited to the "dreaded " intarsia. HMMMMM fun to think about . Hey.....what about a bag....a felted bag. Orginally knit it would look odd but felted down it would be more spotted....more randomly lovely.hmmmmm
laurie: felting it is an amazing idea! will you please do it so we can see??? ; )
Crikey, Alexa Chung looks so much better when shes not wearing black (which she seems to do nearly all the time. I wonder why?)
I want Alexa's jumper!
J. Crew should save its animosity for the Leopard print Uggs.
kate: was trying to find that pic of all of our animal print handbags from the soho grand. some things never go out of style..and some things (leopard uggs?? really?) should never ever be in.
p.s. "animosity"--the purrfect noun for this post. you are a wordsmith!
I love leopard print! I've got it in all forms, purse, tights, shoes, jacket, sweaters...the key is to only pick one item at a time!
Oh. my. god. Leopard leggings! So cute!
As for other leopard print, I love it, but I tend to look a little too cheesecake-y if I wear it so I leave it for the accessories.
Oh, that pullover of Alexas is incredible. I HAVE TO get one!
xoxo, Prefecta
