out of circulation

i thought it was bad when the doc told me i have tendonitis and can't do anything to strain my arm for one week--including all of my faves: knitting, riding a bike and typing (just a few more words and i'll be done, doc). i thought those would be hard to curtail--particularly the last one as i make my living writing. as it turns out, it's much easier than i thought to follow doctor's orders.

my laptop was stolen on saturday night. while we were home. having a party. we were all outside on our front porch. some guy walked right in our back door and helped himself to my laptop. apparently, that's all he wanted, cuz he walked right by my purse and cellphone (thank god). my friend and i actually saw him as he calmly exited via my back door.

there was a neighborhood festival going on and lots of house parties on my street. so i wasn't sure if maybe the guy was from a party next door. my friend said something to him and the guy suddenly ran like hell through our neighbor's backyard and into a waiting SUV (damn SUVs) and sped off into the night. the worst part is, i pretty much lost everything. i had backed up some of my digital pics, but pretty much everything else is gone. i've already talked to my IT guy about getting a backup hard drive...wish i had thought of that sooner.

A NOTE TO THOSE WANTING A FAKE-A-GAMO PATTERN: as soon as i'm up and running on a new laptop, i'll be in touch.

Did you get a cortisone shot fro your tendonitis? I too was instructed to do the same thing on Friday...no using that arm...uh...right.

Speedy recovery and I second the previous comment:

Thieves SUCK!!!

thanks for your kind thoughts. it means a lot! i am now (sort of) up and running on my new laptop! still need my IT guy to get me totally finessed, but at least i can log onto the internet and ck my email...it's good to be reconnected. you don't realize how much you rely on this community of knitting friends until you don't have it!

Walked into your house and took your latop??? That is SO NOT Park Ave. Fest!! What an effer. Can you lift a pint with that arm? Come to the Old Toad Thursday.

so not cool. what a jacka** hey, even if you can't lift a pint with the one arm, you could probably lift it with the other and since you can't ride your bike (not that i'm happy about that, but the chances of your attendance greatly increases in such a sitch), thursday must be free ...

You're NOT going to believe this - on Saturday night my laptop crashed and I, too, lost EVERYTHING - including the Fake-A-Gamo pattern you emailed me on Friday! So, armed with my new laptop I come on over here... to request another pattern!!! Man... u wouldn't read about it...

That is really awful! I'm so sorry to hear about the theft and the enforced week of rest. Glad you got set up on a new machine so quickly. Hopefully your elbow will heal just as fast.

That's horrible! I don't suppose you had laptop lojack on it either .. I've heard it exists, but don't know more than that.

Holy crap! What a bizarre thing to happen, so sorry! Hopefully you can get rolling pretty quick with your new one but that's gotta be tough to remake all your files. Bummer!

wow. that is gutsy. i just heard a story last night about a guy who went into an office to apply for a job. the front desk gal wasn't there while he was filling out the application so he took her computer and walked out the door. i just don't get. what is wrong with people? boo. how depressing. but i hope things start to look up for you!!

So sorry about your recent problems. Per chance was it a Dell with the Sony batteries that were recently recalled? I think that's what the thief deserves! I was diagnosed with tendonitis recently, also...in both my hands. I am typing this while in much pain. Having rested for two weeks, there has been no improvement and I'm deathly afraid of cortizone shots (a series of five or six injections). I'm frustrated at not being able to knit, and the thought that this may be permanent makes me crazy! I truly hope you're back to feeling great...you're really an extremely talented person!!!!
