balenciaga cable?

check out this 28-row cable. it looks to be the exact one from the balenciaga that's got me a-ga-ga. this is from an amazing and free aran cable reference site provided by the incredibly prolific and generous elizabeth from the u.k. she has tirelessly transcribed a whole collection of traditional cables, diamonds, chevrons, and the like for the taking. thank you elizabeth!

i just realized i've actually made this cable before...

...back in the 90s in this gigantic adrienne vittadini sweater. (hey, big is the new black! esp with skinny jeans! might be time to dust this golden oldie off and put it back in my sweater rotation...)

the yarn is vittadini "daniella," a scrumptious merino/cashmere that gives good stitch def and really makes the cables POP.

That cable sweater is absolutely gorgeous. I like how the cables intertwined through the shoulder down to the sleeve section. Very exquisite! Are you thinking what I'm thinking? I fake-o-balenciaga cable sweater :)

i am totally with ya vanessa...the way the cable reaches up and across the shoulders plus the sculptural quality of the cables themselves makes this really special and different...the cables almost look as if they were knit separately and then appliqued on!

hey,Gals,
you are up to something, That FIND of the cable is really great! Thanks for the link Kate, but really, do you have any ideas on the sleeve pattern? or even a picture what's there? On the side..
And I don't think the cables were appliqued on, there are tricks that when you pull only one stitch under the cable and it makes it (the cable) pop.

i am looking at the picture in vogue right now and i also think that the sweater uses a combination of regular cables and applique. the entire front center looks like applique on a reverse stockinette background, flanked by two panels of normal cables. the sleeves look like they are cabled, with a twisted icord applique threaded under the cable cross of the knit fabic.

laura: after looking at my daniella sweater, i do think the 28 row cable is knit right in. but i think you may be onto something with the theory about the twisted i-cord..

Keep on with your blah blah blahing. You find and post such interesting things. Your sweater is amazing. It's time you brought it back into rotation!

I love seeing other people's sweaters. In this case, I love the (I assume) seed stitch on the top half. I may have to mimick that look in a sweater later.....

Wow...I must make that sweater...time to put aside my million other projects and start Balenciawannabe....

I KNEW I didn't buy 2,000 yds of aran wool last year for nothing!
