fake-a-gamo: handle plan

i'm thinking i will continue in patt with one more rep, decreasing and shaping a U-shaped opening. the outer tabs will then be folded over and stitched to form a pocket for the bamboo sticks. i've never figured out the math for this type of shaping before, so this should be interesting...

Nice! Will there be some sort of gusset at the bottom or will it be like a big envelope? Cute either way, of course.

With handles all straight like that I suggest some sort of Gusset - or else you will not be able to get into the purse... I have not read back long enough to see if you sew - but have you thought of perhaps mimicking the shape of the original bag (that curve is lovely and kind of makes the knitting stand out - so becoming) in a really nice mocha linen or some darker (than the wool) shade of linen and then put the bamboo handles onto that. It would be so beautiful - I think that is how I am going to attempt this purse. With a nice simple muslin lining. (FYI I teach 'how to sew purses' classes so I am a sewer first and knitter second - although I love knitting more.) I am sure whatever you choose will work out - just offering suggestions!

nan & amy: thanks for the gusset suggestion. forgive my ignorance...but the gusset would be 2 long rectangles that are sewn into the side of the bag, correct? nan, not sure i'm following how the handles would attach to that. i guess i was thinking that it would be like the melanie falick counterpane bag and open like an envelope. i thought the knit would have enough ease that i'd be able to get into it...but maybe i should try whipping up a couple of gussets and give it a go.
