fake-a-gamo: beta pattern

i originally emailed this out to about 25 knitters who agreed to help test and refine the stitch pattern. since then, so many others have asked for it, i finally thought it might be a good idea to post it. : ) sooo, this includes some of the tweaks from the original testers, but i'm still figuring out the top part of the bag. there are so many different ways to do that, maybe you just want to figure out your own. in case you do, here's a write-up of the basic stitch pattern, still a WIP, to try out. i used classic elite provence in "natural," held double throughout and US8 needles. if you find any mistakes, just let me know and i'll post a fix. thanks. NOTE: i still plan to do a write up of the whole pattern (not just the stitch as below) with the top of the bag worked out. i will email a free PDF of the pattern to anyone who wants it when i'm done figuring that out...but i have been making sloooow progress...so maybe this will keep you busy in the meantime.

Thanks for sharing the pattern. I really have to find time to swatch. What kind of yarn did you use?

I just worked this up using my cheapy blue acrylic and it's definately a do-able pattern for me, so I'm off to the yarn store tomorrow to seek my fiber and some circular 8s (why don't I have them already?) Thanks for your knitty brains! Will there be a knit-along list to sign up for?

How about this one next?

Please could I get a pdf of the pattern too?

Don't know why I want to knit this - I am not a purse-y sort of person.
Maybe it's been your enthusiasm and doggedness at working out the pattern?

Well done by the way, and TIA.

This is a gorgeous bag, and I can't wait to start it. I like the Provence yarn, too! I just knit a bag carrying Provence with an Araucania, which was for my MIL for Mother's Day. So now I'm crazy to do a bag for myself that's not felted. I've been trying to scrounge up my own cable knit design, but I like yours better and it is so much more in style right now the season! Keep up the good work and please send me the final pdf when you get it. Thanks!!!

hi, i have started this and im soooo confused!!. i have frogged it about 5 times when i get to a certain point. it seems that there are errors and i cant figure it out. for instance... row 7, should it say *three times instead of *twice???.. so if that is an error and i keep going having done that 3X then everything is fine till i get to row 11. then row 12 doesn't match with the subsequent row. has anyone done this the whole way through following these directions exactly??? I NEED HELP!!!!!!!

Hey, is it me or from row 11 and down nothing matches? I'm trying to change it a little so it matches, but every time the end is the same. Please help, if anyone has done it and it worked, can you post if it's all good or I should change it? At row 11 I changed the end. I made it to look the same as beginning of the row. Then row 12 I change to k5(p11,k11)x3,p11, k5. Then I have no idea what to do with the row 13 cause it doesn't match at all. And the triangle gets too wide( more than 17). What to do? Could anyone help me? G.rozenaite@gmail.com thanks!
