why i will never be a juror

my mother is on jury duty this week. my first question was, did you bring your knitting? i mean, come on. jury duty is a knitter's dream. you're sitting there for like eight hours at a time, just listening. what else are you gonna do but knit? and when you're not sitting in the jury box, you're sitting in the juror's room with all kinds of time to knit. i wish they'd call me for jury duty.

just one problem. my mom said there's no knitting needles allowed in the court house. she said there's a sign right up front when you go in that says it. my mom's not even that big of a knitter and she looked. oh yeah, my mom said she got wanded, too. twice. guess they wanted to make doubly sure she wasn't carrying a concealed susan bates. or, worse: addi turbos. guess they're worried you'll poke out the bailiff's eye. or maybe some crazy person will grab your 14-inch straights and lobotomize himself.

no knitting needles. huh. no wonder those 12 guys were so pissed off.

fake-a-gamo: another strap idea

don't even get me started on how beautiful this bag is. let's stay focused here. this is about the straps...the straps on the bag. this could be a very good option for the straps on the f-gamo. these are very simple, sturdy, probably leather or fabric-wrapped straps. i'd line the bag with some very sturdy fabric, maybe canvas. and then attach the straps through a big ol' grommet. i love the single strand of fringe also...very balenciaga. click on pic for larger view.

armwarmers: the perfect spring project?

up here in upstate ny, cool mornings give way to only slightly less cool afternoons. which is just as well. because i'm not quite ready to bare my still-winter-pale arms. most days, a light jacket is required. or, even better, light-as-a-feather armwarmers, knit out of whisper-soft be sweet extra-fine baby mohair. i'm thinking of a very fitted pair with slightly flared cuffs like this. if i knit an elastic enough top edge, they should stay put.

you gotta love twiggy

those pencil-thin eyebrows. and that hat. could she be any more mia-farrow-as-daisy-in-the-great-gatsby? not to mention snegurochka's party hat from handknit holidays. did anyone ever actually make that thing?
