is anyone here?

hey you people reading this blog...SAY SOMETHING. or maybe no one is really out there. if a blog falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, is it really a blog? blog is funny if you keep saying it. blog. blog. blog. see what i mean? i mean, what could be more provocative than this? don't you just want to comment? concur? wildly disagree? fart in my general direction?

you know you have yarn on the brain when you begin noticing the knitwear of cartoon characters. but seriously, this tunic and shrug combo is quite fashonable. or is it a capelet?

soho pearl

finally got to visit purl while on a weekend trip to nyc. yarns are arranged roy g. biv-style in tidy square bins. it's tiny shoebox of a store, with a great cozy feel and is not the least bit snobbish. not one, but three young and hip purlsters were on hand the day i stopped by, two of whom were men. the gal, in particular, was really knowledgeable and helpful. favorite finds: alchemy bamboo in fuschia, and two balls of koigu...one in a brilliant peacock blue and the other in a spring-feverish variegated yellow green. my only regret was not bringing my knitting along. i would have sacrificed a trip to bendel's for two hours in purl-vana!

rowan birch shawl
Originally uploaded by hitbyabus.
i saw this amazing mohair shawl on flickr and decided i had to make it. specificfoodsforspecificminds told me it was a rowan pattern...sooo, i went to the knitting garden and ordered up rowan book no. 34. THEN, today, i'm talking to my bestest knitting buddy laurie and she is telling me about this amazing rowan shawl kit with kidsilk haze she just ordered from the knitting garden...and i'm like, it's not the birch shawl, is it? and she's like, OMG, i think it is, and i'm like, that is, like, so friggin weird.
