shea and mike and mike and laurie just left and i am so sad. but then i came up to my studio and uploaded all the pix mike took over the last week and saw this one of shea wearing the choker i made for her. she is so beautiful and the perfect model for laurie's and my choker design.

inherited an amazing stash of vintage knitting/pattern books from T-baby. they're from all different decades, ranging from the 30s through the 80s.

yarn birds

purl of wisdom: i'm saving all those little scraps of yarn snipped off the ends of projects...then hanging them in the bushes in the front yard. my hope is that some little birdies will take them and line their nests. that would be the ultimate knitted thingy.

from suss cousins first book. added the little pompom pull. only problem with this bag is the fuzz gets stuck in the zipper. other than that, it makes a great little makeup or evening bag.

how do you motivate eight of your friends to start knitting? invite them to "edible thong night," that's how.

ok, so it sounded like a good idea at the beginning. i bought a case of licorice laces online. everyone brought their own chopsticks.

there's only one problem knitting with licorice...well, actually two: it's sticky and it breaks. a lot. after a couple of glasses of wine and many failed attempts, we finally gave up and decided to make our thongs out of mohair instead.

no longer edible, but a heckuva lot easier than knitting with licorice.

knit in the round on dp needles. amazing what those victorians could come up with. these little babies look great (esp with all those sweaters where i made the sleeves too short) and are really cozy and warm.

the pattern is adapted from a wonderful victorian handiworks collection originally published by weldon's. it has been recently reissued by dover press.

beau mini capelet

found this hand-dyed yarn at a new shop called wild wools. they specialize in natural yarns. the gauge on this was pretty open, so i decided to add the red fringe to make it seem a bit more substantial. presented it to anne as an early christmas present. she's using it tomorrow on julia in her christmas card photoshoot. can't wait to see how that turns out!

mini me

i am obsessed with capelets right now. the beau mini capelet in rowan's big wool book is adorable and knits up in about one hour. then, all that's left to do is figure out how to embellish it.
